Russ & Sue Carr
Africa & American Urban Centers

Ministry Overview:
The Carr’s live in Virginia which serves as their base of operations. The organization they founded, Sports Outreach Institute, is focused in Africa with primary work in Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya. The Carr’s also coordinate work in Mexico, minister in some of the inner-cities of the U.S. and have recently launched a community-wide youth and family ministry here in the states. SOI is involved in a variety of programs targeting traumatized children in East Africa as well as a new program reaching several hundred slum children. The ministry is based on building long-term relationships with the children and others with whom we work.

Russ and Sue’s ministry involves coordinating and overseeing all of these programs as well as teaching, training, conducting seminars and workshops in sports ministry, holding various clinics and hands-on outreach. We also lead U.S. groups to Africa and Mexico as time permits.

Prayer Requests:
Pray that Sports Outreach will touch many lives for Christ as it works with some of the neediest people on earth. Pray that the new believers will grow strong in their faith and take up leadership roles in the near future. Pray for protection as they venture into some of the war zones of Africa carrying the message of God’s love. Pray also for their growing work in Mexico and their various ministries here in the U.S.

Dear Friends:

On behalf of Sports Outreach and our entire staff, I would like to thank you for your prayers, encouragement and financial support for the ministry, literally thousands of lives are being touched by SOI programs each day and we can't thank you enough for your help that enables us to do this servant work.

The Beijing Olympics have called the attention of the world to some of other difficult humanitarian issues of China.  Unfortunately, much of the world has chosen to ignore the poor treatment of millions in China as well as the political oppression.  Nevertheless there are many who labor behind the scenes and in underground churches of China sharing the Gospel and providing humanitarian assistance to so many.  We in the Sports Outreach family are also called to share the powerful message of salvation and to relieve the suffering of those who suffer from extreme poverty, disease, ignorance and neglect.  It is hard work and requires much prayer, perseverance and your continued support.

  • Franklin Shelimba and the rest of the SOM staff in Kenya are working extra hours to assist thousands in the Mukuru slum of Nairobi.
  • Aloysius and the staff in Gulu, Uganda continue to develop the farm and good News Community Center while assisting thousands who are now leaving the IDP Camps and trying to return to their homes.
  • Tim and Barb Wood continue to meet with local officials and work hard towards the Soccer Crusade this coming January.
  • The Good News Football Team in Kampala is being stretched by the continued devaluation of the dollar and rising cost.

Please join me in prayer for all the SOI staff, those very servants whose efforts you already have sacrificial supported with your monetary gifts.  They have chosen to stand in the gap and be protectors, advocated, defenders, disciplers and friends to the poorest of the poor.

Thanks again for your generosity, prayers and encouragement.  May God b less you and continue to make His face to shine upon you.

Grace and Peace,

Rodney Suddith, executive director, Sports Outreach
